The time since the last trip to Þingvallavatn in June 2012 has been exceptionally busy and eventful. The summer vacation is therefore long-awaited, to say the least. After the last workday before the summer vacation on Thursday, the fishing gear was tossed into the car, and we drove to Þingvallavatn. The weather was the best. A tiny bit of wind from the west, but very warm. I decided to go to the areas by the lake I know best and drove down to the lake south of Arnarfell. In that area, I have caught fish in several places, but one spot in particular I have found more promising than others.
When I arrive at the lake, there are, as usual, a few people bustling about fishing, and one of the anglers had planted themselves on my favorite spot. I therefore decided to walk to Arnarfell and then fish quietly along the bank to the south. The layout there is slightly different than most places in the national park because there is a gravel bank rather than vegetated lava. I soon noticed that there was fish there, but they did not want to bite. Not until I reached the south end of the gravel bank did the first char take. When the gravel bank ends, a beautiful bay takes over, which I have sometimes tried to fish in but never had any luck (ekki átt erindi sem erfiði). This time, however, I caught one char just on the west side of the bay and lost another. By now, it was late in the evening, and I was starting to think about heading home, but I was tempted to try a few casts at my favorite spot. There, the third char was caught.
