Later in July, the “smíðaklúbburinn” (the building/carpentry club) went to Ketuvötn on Skagaheiði. This time, we fished mostly in Selvatn and in one of the Kelduvötn lakes. In Selvatn, there are both trout and char. Two things remained in my memory after this trip. One was the behavior of the char, and the other was the behavior of the city dweller. It was clear that the char saw the fly I offered because it chased it. But it did nothing more than that. It just chased, but never took it.
The other thing was the behavior of the city dweller who felt it necessary, far up on the moor where not a soul was moving except for the members of the building club, to lock the car to ensure maximum safety. Then the city dweller went fishing. Another sat on the bank by the car with one beer in hand and a little bit of bait. When he wanted to get more beer, he came to a locked car. Inside the car was the beer and the bait. He had to make do with sitting there, very thirsty, for many hours. As compensation, he fished exceptionally well right there from the bank. On the way home, we stopped at Aðalsmannsvatn on Eyvindarstaðaheiði. There was plenty of trout in that lake, but it was small, extremely small. On this fishing trip, I landed 35 trout, and 14 of them were char, the rest were brown trout.
Í þessari veiðiferð landaði ég 35 silungum og 14 þeirra voru bleikja, restin urriðar.
