Just south of Lake Þingvallavatn is a lake named after Úlfljótur, the first Lawspeaker in Iceland. The lake is located just south of Þingvallavatn, and that is where my wife and I headed this weekend.
There are some fishing trips one would rather skip telling people about—especially if the only thing worth reporting is one’s own clumsiness. My wife and I were home alone this weekend. We spent Saturday doing various chores in the garden, but on Sunday, we rewarded ourselves for our hard work by driving east to Úlfljótsvatn.
We have never fished in Úlfljótsvatn, so we gave ourselves plenty of time to look around the lake. We were trying to figure out where would be a promising place to stop and fish. Finally, we found a likely spot. When I opened the trunk of the car, I saw immediately that something was not as it should be.
My waders and wading jacket were hanging up to dry back home in the shed. Consequently, I had to fish from the bank. To make a long story short: we didn’t find a single fish.”
